About United Effects Venture Studios (UEV)
United Effects Ventures (UEV) is a Philadelphia-based VC studio dedicated to helping B2B technology companies start fast and go further. Through its Fast Start Platform, Enrichment Program, and Origination Venture Fund, UEV provides iterative origination-stage capital, hands-on operator support, and practical guidance to help founders validate, launch, and scale with confidence.
UEV exists to reduce early-stage risk by combining experience, execution, and ecosystem. The outcome: sharper focus, faster progress, and real durability for founders building what’s next.
What We Are Building
At UEV, we don’t just invest in founders and startups, we also build them from the ground up. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader, business builder, founder experienced, advisor, and innovator to build a world class technology organization and AI innovation lab.
Through this team you will create next-gen technologies into startups, partner with founders to build joint ventures, and create managed service for equity and revenue offerings to ensure UEV has the resources to continue self-sufficient growth and innovation as we launch and fund startup after startup.
We’re calling this role “CTO” and the team our new AI Lab.
But this is not your typical CTO job.
If you’ve been a founder, startup CTO, or tech leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, if you’re a tinkerer who builds AI tech for fun, if you have consultative experience and know how to build partnerships, scale teams, grow revenue, and finally, if you’re itching to build many things, not just one—this could be the most fun you’ve had in years.
What You'll Do
- Develop a sustainable P&L business plan for the AI Lab with services & revenue and equity targets
- Design and lead the development of our AI lab infrastructure and process framework
- Identify partners or hiring strategies to build teams for both rapid prototyping and long-term efforts
- Guide technical strategy and product architecture for early-stage UEV-backed startups
- Constantly learn and stay ahead of AI innovation and advancement to bring to UEV
- Stay on top of AI regulation and responsible use – guide UEV and our companies
- Build reusable AI, Product, and Technology playbooks
- Roll up your sleeves and prototype MVPs or high-risk product concepts
- Surface and pitch new in-studio ideas as potential startups – with prototyping
- Help portfolio companies with proven MVPs transition to scalable architectures for growth
- Context switch with grace across multiple initiatives without losing velocity
- Mentor founder candidates and advise on early hiring plans
- Partner with design and product teams to validate and iterate on new ideas
- Mentor technical founders and help them grow into leadership roles
- Become a public facing thought leader on AI and building startup technology
- Guide talks, panels, and other community enrichment activities
- Experiment – stay on the frontier of AI capabilities
Who You Are
- Technologically insatiable
- A former startup CTO or technical co-founder who still enjoys coding and building even if you’re too busy to do it anymore.
- Deeply technical but relentlessly product-minded
- Experienced in AI/ML product experimentation and commercialization
- Comfortable moving between code, architecture, and business decisions
- Fast context switcher who loves variety
- Naturally collaborative, low-ego, and founder-first in attitude
- Skilled at mentoring, coaching, and leveling up those around you
- Excited by the idea of spinning something out yourself one day – we’re going to do more than 1
Tech You Know (or Can Learn Fast)
We’re not religious about stacks, and honestly as a leader we don’t expect you to be hands on with all of this all the time; however, you should be aware of these and be able to test them and play with them before committing teams to them – at least in our early days when everyone at UEV is hands-on with multiple hats. Here’s the kind of experience that will set you up to move fast:
- Proficient in developing software using AI assistance such as Lovable, Cursor, or our preference Claude Code. You should have processes and frameworks to enable you to rapidly generate clean, enterprise grade code through AI assistance – or at least be open to learning.
- Experienced in modern AI/ML models and frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, LangChain, Pinecone, HuggingFace, Weaviate)
- Experience with vector databases, RAG architectures, knowledge graphs, and multi-agent
- Cloud-native chops (e.g., AWS, GCP, Vercel, Firebase, Supabase)
- Familiarity with modern web and backend stacks (e.g., Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Java, Golang, Rust, React, Next.js, Flask/FastAPI)
- DevOps mindset—automating, monitoring, and deploying (e.g., Docker, GitHub Actions, Terraform)
- Experience architecting enterprise-grade solutions—microservices, distributed systems, big data pipelines, eventual consistency patterns, etc.
- Startup stack pragmatism—knowing when to ship scrappy vs. scale smart
What You’ll Get
- 1099 Salary until UEV transitions to W2
- Profit share in all AI Lab Revenue
- An equity portfolio: a slice of all joint ventures and studio startups that you build
- Unparalleled exposure to a portfolio of B2B SaaS startups
